Several major security incidents have raised awareness about the growing impact of vulnerabilities in source code that can propagate through the software supply chain. A vulnerability may be introduced, maliciously or by accident, in one of the many dependencies of a software, or continue to exist in an outdated piece of code copied from another software before it was discovered and fixed [dependencyconfusion, bkc2020], with potentially critical consequences on the security of the software itself, and of other software that depends on it. Our objective is to explore several of the new possibilities offered by the availability of Software Heritage to blend to- gether the “vertical” and “horizontal” approaches to software supply chain security.
